I feel just the opposite.
Sony Live is way better than Hotstar for live streaming even it can stream low data speed but Hotstar requires high speed data.

My experience with Hotstar and Sonyliv (both premium paid versions) at 40 Mbps fiber speed

1. Streaming Experience - Hotstar lags and gets stuck many times even in medium settings. Sometimes, if there are more than 1-2 million viewers, then, it get stuck even in 360p. Sonyliv streams perfectly even in high settings.
2. Ads - Hotstar has only 1 or max 2 ads between overs. If there is an option for Select Dugout, then, it has ads only once in 5-6 overs. Sonyliv ads are poorly designed. They have a volume much more than the cricket match. So, you have to reduce the volume after every over. Otherwise, your ears will suffer from hearing about TV series on Sonyliv like Manhattan.
