Ishant Sharma and Steve Smith
fined after Brisbane Test

India fast-bowler Ishant Sharma has
been fined 15% of his match-fee in a
breach of ICC's Code of Conduct. The
fast bowler, in the 88th over of
Australia's first innings was caught on
camera mouthing expletives after
dismissing Australian captain Steve
Smith.

Meanwhile, the Australian skipper
also faced a fine from the match
referee for maintaining a slow over
rate.

Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel
of ICC Match Referees imposed the
fine on Australia after Steven Smith's
side was ruled to be three overs
short of its target when time
allowances were taken into
consideration. In accordance with
Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of
Conduct,which relates to minor over-
rate offences, players are fined 10
per cent of their match fees for every
over their side fails to bowl in the
allotted time, with the captain fined
double that amount.

As such, Smith has been fined 60 per
cent of his match fee, while his
players have received 30 per cent
fines. If Smith is found guilty of one
more minor over-rate offence as
captain in Tests over the next 12
months, he will receive a one-match
suspension as per the provisions of
the Code.

Meanwhile, Sharma has been fined
15 per cent of his match fee for
violating Level 1 Article 2.1.4 of the
ICC Code of Conduct which relates to
language or a gesture that is
obscene, offensive or insulting during
an International match .

Sharma admitted the offence and
accepted the sanction proposed by
the match referee. As such, there
was no need for a formal hearing. All
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum
penalty of an official reprimand and
a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of
a players match fee.

Joe Burns replaces Mitchell Marsh in Australia Test squad

Queensland batsman, Joe Burns, has
been called in to replace the injured
Mitchell Marsh for the Boxing Day
Test between Australia and India at
Melbourne.

Marsh pulled his right hamstring
during his 7th over in first innings of
the second Test and did not bowl
since then.

"It took a fair while to sink in. I'm
over the moon at the news as it is
the best Christmas present I could
ever hope for," said Burns on his
selection.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann
spoke highly of Burns, who has had a
very good Sheffield Shield season for
Queensland, amassing 439 runs at a
healthy average of 54.87.

"Joe Burns can bat anywhere from
one to six. There's some flexibility
there," said coach Darren Lehmann
before adding that the batting order
would be decided after consulting
Steve Smith, the Australian captain.

"He's a very good player against fast
bowling. He's proved that. He's
played at the Gabba for the last
couple of years and had a good
couple of summers in Shield cricket.
His performances this year have been
very good," he said.

"He got a good 180 here against
Doug Bollinger and Trevor Hohns and
Mark Waugh saw that and were very
impressed with that. There's been
some good contenders for that spot.
It's always a tough call on other
players but we went with Joe, a
younger player. We think he's got
something about him. We hope he
does well," Lehmann revealed.

Akshar Patel called up for
remaining Australia Tests

Akshar Patel , the Gujarat
allrounder, will join the Indian
Test team in Australia as a
replacement for Ravindra Jadeja,
whose shoulder injury has ruled
him out of the rest of the series,
the BCCI said on Monday.

Jadeja was injured during training
on Saturday, the fourth day of the
Brisbane Test, where Shikhar
Dhawan was hit on the wrist at
the nets prior to the beginning of
the day's play. The extent of
Jadeja's injury to his shoulder was
only known on Sunday following
scans, and he will return to India
to undergo rehabilitation.

Jadeja, who didn't feature in the
first two Tests, was part of the
squad as the second spinner
behind R Ashwin, but was
overlooked for the opening Test at
Adelaide where stand-in captain
Virat Kohli chose to give
legspinner Karn Sharma a Test
debut.

Akshar has played nine ODIs for
India since making his debut in
Bangladesh earlier this year, but
shot to prominence following an
impressive IPL 2014 for Kings XI
Punjab, picking up 17 wickets.

The Gurajat left-arm spinner is
known more for his accurate
stump-to-stump bowling rather
than deceiving batsmen with
flight, a ploy that has helped him
to 32 wickets from 10 first-class
matches. Playing against
Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy on
Sunday, Akshar picked up 4/72
and will fly out to Australia after
completing the match.

Akshar entered the Indian team
as a replacement for Jadeja, who
was rested during the home ODI
series against West Indies and Sri
Lanka, and has now got his
maiden Test call-up following an
injury to his rival from Saurashtra
as a like-for-like replacement.

His recent performances for the
ODI team, which included handy
efforts with the bat against Sri
Lanka at Cuttack and Ranchi, also
won praise from his stand-in
captainVirat Kohli , who lauded his
maturity in seeing the side
through to victories in both
games.

Warner to play third Test

Melbourne : David Warner has said
he is ready to play in the Boxing
Day Test despite a sore thumb.
Warner, who has hit on the
thumb by a Umesh Yadav delivery
in the second innings, was in
doubt for the third Test but
Warner said he will not miss the
Melbourne Test.

"I will definitely be playing - I will
be doing everything I can.

Obviously it's a bit painful, it's the
one I broke before, but I'm not
missing a Boxing Day Test, that's
for sure", Warner said.

Meanwhile, Queensland Bulls
coach Stuart Law has urged the
Australian team management to
let Joe Burns bat at number three.

Law stated that Burns will not feel
the pressure and he will employ
an aggressive approach against
India. "In the conversations that
we've had about playing for
Australia I've told him that there's
no point tapping on a window,
you might as well bash down a
door," he said.

When asked about why he wants
Burns to bat higher the order,
Law said, "He doesn't sit around
and watch very well - he's up and
walking around because he just
wants to be out there playing
cricket."

Australia lead the four-match Test
series 2-0 and they will be aiming
to seal the series in the third Test
starting on Friday.
