Huawei is all set to launch its flagship smartphone the Mate 9 at an event in Munich, Germany on November 3. Even as we are very close to its launch, the Mate 9 has been doing a number of rounds on the rumor mill. Previous rumors suggested that two variants of the smartphone would come, one being the flat-screened version, and the other featuring a dual-edge curved display which would be reportedly called the Mate 9 Pro. However, the Mate 9 Pro’s possibility is still a little dicey as some reports suggest that Huawei may not go ahead with the dual-edge curved display. As for the Mate 9, the latest reports have confirmed its cameras resolution and big battery as well.

Huawei had recently released a teaser image and a video as well hinting at a large battery life. The image reads “Is worrying about your battery worth it?”. Although the Mate 9’s battery size is still not known, going by the teaser we can expect a powerful battery. The teaser video includes people talking about how much time it takes to charge one’s smartphone’s battery. This could also hint at a quick charge facility for the smartphone. If we recall, the Mate 8 ’s battery was 4,000mAh and it had even received an endurance rating of 103 hours on GSMArena’s battery test. The Mate 9 could bring something similar or even better with the Mate 9.

As for the camera, this report comes from renowned analyst Pan Jiutang, who predicts that the Mate 9 will feature a pairing of 12-megapixel and 20-megapixel rear cameras. This has been already known that the Mate 9 will feature dual cameras on the rear end.

However, previous rumors suggested that it would be 20-megapixels. Jiutang further said that the Mate9’s camera qualities will double that of the Huawei P9, which stands strong for its camera capabilities. Huawei P9’s 12-megapixel dual cameras set comes are Leica engineered and come with features like dual-tone LED flash, Light Painting, Super Night, Watermark, Audio Note, Ultra Snapshot and a bucket load more. Along with that, Jiutang also says that the Mate 9 will be equipped with a fingerprint scanner.

The Mate 9 Pro’s existence still remains a big question as some rumors suggest that Huawei won’t launch the dual-edge curved smartphone, while some suggest that it will be launched. We’ll just have to wait for the launch which is three days away. Till then, we already have a rough sketch of the specifications and features that both the smartphones are expected to come with.

Huawei Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro specifications

The Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro share similar set of specifications and features except for its display. Huawei Mate 9 is expected to feature a 5.9-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. Huawei’s Mate 9 Pro, on the other hand, is expected to feature a 5.9-inch display with QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution. The reason for the bump in resolution is because the Pro variant is said to support Google’s Daydream VR.

Under the hood of the smartphones will be Huawei’s own Kirin 960 octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphones are expected to be available in three storage options — 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. On the software front, the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro are expected to run on Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box wrapped under Emotion UI 5.0.

The Huawei Mate 9 will come with Leica dual-camera setup like Huawei’s recent flagship device

P9 . But unlike the P9, the dual cameras on the Mate 9 are expected to feature Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The rest of the camera features expected are f/2.0 aperture, 4x optical zoom, laser auto-focus, hybrid auto-focus feature, contrast focus and depth focus. There’s currently no word on the selfie camera of the Mate 9 so far.
