Earlier in January, a rumor suggested that Google will release two Nexus devices this year and both of them will be made by HTC. Now, another rumor has surfaced saying that Google is going with HTC not for one but three years to make the Nexus devices.
According to a report from MyDrivers , HTC has inked a three year contract with Alphabet to make the Nexus devices. This could mean that we will see HTC made Nexus phones for three years starting with 2016. The latest news comes only a month after LG backed out of the Nexus program and said that it will not make Nexus 5x successor as it wants to focus on its own brand. The report does not give any other details and hence it is not known if the partnership is limited only to the Nexus phones or includes tablets as well.
In January, popular tipster LlabTooFeR suggested that HTC will make two Nexus phones which are code named as T50’ and ‘T55’ , where the former will sport a 5-inch display and latter will have a 5.5 display. HTC had made the first ever Nexus phone dubbed as the Nexus One as well as the Nexus 9 Android tablet in 2014. Meanwhile, in 2015 Google went with LG and Huawei for Nexus 5x and Nexus 6P respectively.
This is the first time it has been reported that Google has signed a three year deal with an OEM for the Nexus program. However, it must be noted that nothing is official as of now and it looks like we might have to wait a bit longer to know more about this years Nexus phones.
