HP talking up Ultrabook prospects
HP bets farm on new processors and Windows 8

HP believes that at least a fifth of its portable sales will come from the Ultrabook segment by 2013.

Rajiv Srivastava, HP India Vice President and General Manager (Printing and Personal Systems Group) was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying that by the end of 2013, 15-20 per cent of volumes will be that of Ultrabook and by 2014 it should be around 40 per cent.

He said that HP had a strong lineup of products and across price points, ready to put into its channel which he thinks, would be a crucial factor.

Analysts have seen Ultrabooks as a slow burner and will probably not do as well as Intel hopes.

HS analyst Craig Stice, according to Agence France-Presse, said that the PC industry has failed to create the kind of buzz and excitement among consumers that is required to propel Ultrabooks into the mainstream.

IHS iSupply thinks that only 10.3 million Ultrabooks might be shipped as against the 22 million forecasted earlier.

HP hopes that the market will revive with the launch of a new Intel processor and Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system upgrade.
