Hi Guys,

Well before selling my old iPhone 11 in May 2024, i backed up all the data (contacts, apps, photos, notes, whatsapp, etc) to iTunes. The last OS that iPhone was running was iOS 17.4 after which i sold it.

I have a few questions regard to this:

1. Now if i buy a new iPhone in the coming weeks, say 15/16 which would be running iOS 18, then how can i restore all the backed up data as of May 2024 which is saved in the PC (iTunes) ??? (from iPhone 11)

2. Whatsapp backup is also on iCloud as well as iTunes (May 2024), and i am using and andorid phone for the time being untill i buy an iPhone again, Whatsapp from iCloud will restore as of May 2024, but is there any way to merge the android whatsapp chats after May 2024 till date to that of the iOS whatsapp chat backup ?

3. Any restrictions or issues i would face during the backup restoration process ? Will all data get restored properly ?

Any replies to my above queriws would be really thankfull.

You can transfer latest data and whatsapp from Android phone to new iphone directly when switch on the new iphone and ignore old iphone data. (May 2024).

Well thats not much of a use as it would be of 6 months only. While the older backup will have almost 4 years of chat data, and it has some important chats too (cant loose them, hehehe)

@Siva bro, would need your inputs on this please.
Hi bro,

Sorry I missed responding this.

For restoring an itunes backup, you can follow the steps here.

This shouldn't be a problem and everything should be restored as backed up.

For your second question on WhatsApp, I don't think there's an option to merge. You need to choose what you want to have (Old or New). There could be some paid 3rd party softwares which may claim doing this merge, however we cannot be sure of their accuracy and we cannot risk our WhatsApp data with 3rd party software.

Let me know if you have any other questions and welcome back to the iPhone family!!

@Siva bro,

I will have to select restore from PC or Mac in the options during the first time power on/ initial set up ?

Or should I just got ahead and set up the device normally first and then restore from iTunes ?

Which is a better option since I won't know which iOS version the new iPhone 15 plus would be running ?

Restore from PC in the options during the initial setup.

Well, I restored my iPhone 11 backup to iPhone 15 Plus and I must say, everything was just as the last time I used iPhone. The same state, everything including the data, settings, options, wallpapers, was also restored with the help of iTunes.

Thanks @Siva bro for your help.

I purchased the iPhone 15 Plus

First impressions were great. I have a few queries.

1. The phone heats up during charging, well it’s the first time I charged it to 100%, it came with 85% when booted up. The heating is on the back panel behind the volume buttons adjacent to the cameras. Is this fine because it’s a new device ?

2. I did some photo and video shooting (45 mins ) and they battery usage was 87% and battery drained from approx 50% to 25% during this time. Yes I tried cinematic mode, portrait and normal shooting. Is this normal ?

3. Again using camera app / Instagram the back panel heated up.

4. Lastly which is the better option in battery settings if I want a great battery health and life in the long run? Optimised battery charging to 100% or upto 80% limit ?

Thank You

This is perfectly normal during the initial few days of usage. It should settle down in a couple of weeks.

It’s a trade off between battery life and the battery health. I tried using the 80% limit, but I couldn’t continue as it required me to charge the phone many times than the normal. I have since switched to optimised. Also, my battery health dropped just as it used to with the optimised setting even with the 80% limit. So I think the compromise of charging the device many times isn’t worth the little battery health that is being saved. If you need more details on this, there’s a nice article you can read here.
