Indian shuttler Sameer Verma stunned World number three Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark to enter the final of Hong Kong Open Super Series with straight games victory in just 45 minutes.
Verma, who has made it to his first Super Series final, was in complete command as he raced to a 7-2 lead in the opening game. Jorgensen made a strong comeback but Verma held on to close out the opening game 21-19.
Verma, who is the reigning Senior National Badminton champion in India, was slow to get off the blocks in the second game as Jorgensen started his rearguard to equal the match. Jorgensen led 7-1 before Verma made a brief comeback to take consecutive points.
The Dane was still in command of the second game as he led the India 11-5. But the Indian knew he had a great chance to make it to the summit clash and he wouldn't allow his opponent to gatecrash the party.
The Indian made a spectacular comeback to tie the game at 14-14. After that it was neck and neck until Jorgensen opened up a three point lead at 20-17. Verma saved three matchpoints to tie the game at 20-20.
The experienced Dane had no answer to Verma's athleticism thereafter as he closed the second game 24-22 to become only the third Indian man to qualify for the final of a Super Series event.
He will take on local boy NG Ka Long Angus who beat compatriot HU Yun to make it to the summit clash.
