Hi friends,
In a metro city, there are no power cuts at all except for rare emergencies. But when I am at my native place in South India, often there is routine load-shedding and power outages.

To overcome this problem, I have made an inverter circuit which draws 9.4 volts from 2 Solar Panels and drives a Transformer giving 240 Volts AC power. The direct output from a single solar panel can be used to charge a mobile phone / USB-charging device directly. It has a Nokia-type pin provision too.

This works as long as there is bright sunlight falling on the panels. The output from the inverter is enough for a 40Watts tubelight, a table-fan, a small tv or a laptop. Also if we add one more panel and make few changes in the circuit, a car battery of 12V can be charged and used to drive the transformer to power devices when there is no sunlight.

The Solar Panels cost me Rs2000, Circuit with general board + electronic components cost around Rs200.
9 volts Transformer I removed from old broken Radio at home. Pin-adapters etc I got free with mobile 4 years back.
The above experiment items will be fit into a plastic soap box by me soon :)

Thanks Vinay For Sharing Experiments Also Detail Info.
How much Load On this For Good working ? Only A Mobile Charger Or 20/30 Watt Cfl ?
I have Two Solar Panel Each Out 12 V , How to use this

Dear Vikram Sir,
With my circuit settings and capacity, it can support 2 X 20 Watts CFL or 1 X 30 Watts CFL.
For mobile charging, 12V has to be reduced to 5 Volts by using step-down circuit.
You will have to use 12Volts-240Volts Transformer instead of the 9V which I have used. Thats it.
If you use 2 panels then you can power 4 X 20 Watts CFL and 2 X 30 Watts CFL without overloading the circuit. You can add Fuse or MCB also for additional protection.

In our area, there is regular load shedding at night for 1-1.5hrs, how can Solar Panel help us at night?
But nice and detailed work Vinay Ji.
