is believed that the expansion will then add new dimension to Gurugram and improve the public transportation of the city

With an aim to improve connectivity with Delhi, the Haryana government is going to expand the 18-km Dwarka Expressway up to 16 lanes, which will be the widest in the country. The decision in this regard was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Gurugram on Saturday

Keeping in mind of congestion on the expressway in the future, Haryana PWD Minister Rao Narbir Singh said all necessary efforts are being made to boost transportation infrastructure of the city

"The Haryana government has sanctioned Rs 10,000 crore for three projects that include expansion of Delhi Metro from Huda City Centre to Subhash Chowk situated on Gurugram-Alwar Road and Metrino pod taxi project proposed between Dhaula Kuan to Manesar besides widening of the Dwarka Expressway

The Dwarka Expressway, also known as Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), was proposed in 2009 to provide alternative commuting access between Kherkidaula in Gurugram and Delhi's suburban town Dwarka apart from Delhi-Gurugram expressway(NH 8). The contract for construction of the project was awarded to two companies, namely JSR Construction Private Ltd and India Bulls Private Ltd in April 2011. The project was to be completed by March 31, 2012. It got delayed by at least five years due to land acquisition issues. As per initial Detail Project Report, out of 18-km signal-free road, 14 km falls within the territories of Gurugram and remaining four kilometre under Delhi. This entire road is now of three lanes on each side that connects with Dwarka Najafgarh link road

The National Highways Authority of India has already decided to extend the length of Dwarka Expressway by another five kilometres to connect the National Highway-8 near Mahipalpur.
"The widening of six lane Dwarka Expressway was earlier discussed with Union surface transport and highway minister . He has given green signal to it. Now we have decided to add five more lanes on either side of the expressway. We have directed the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to begin land acquisition procedures for the project," Singh said. Currently, large number of commuters from Delhi want to travel to IMT Manesar. But they just have only one route and that is Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Completion of Dwarka Expressway will immensely benefit the commuters. Besides, Dwarka Expressway is also crossing two state highways - the Gurugram-Pataudi and Gurugram-Jhajjar highways and hence it would reduce traffic burden of NH 8.
People of Gurugram have benefited due to the Delhi Metro since 2008. However, it has limited reach up to just five stations. Gurugram residents have been demanding for a long time that the Metro project be expanded into the city. It will expand by up to 3.5 kilometres more till Subhash Chowk
It is believed that the expansion will then add new dimension to Gurugram and improve the public transportation of the city

According to Centre's proposal, the Metrino pod taxi project will include an elevated corridor that will run alongside the NH-8. It's a first in India, based on driverless laser-guided technology. Six people can be accommodated in this taxi and its speed will be 40 km per hour
