New Delhi: At the time when Apple is all geared up for its Watch to go on sale, comes news that rival Google is working to make its competing Android Wear platform available on the iPhone. But then, that is subject to Apple's approval. If approved, Apple risks an even greater competition from Android-Wear-based smartwatches to Apple Watch that is going on sale from April 24.

According to The Verge's sources in the Google development team working on the project, the Android Wear for iPhone would work as companion app on the iPhone and would support functions such as notifications, Google Now cards and voice actions. Android Wear for iPhone is also expected to support other functions such as replying to Gmail emails.

While some developers have built solutions to get Android Wear running on iOS, but then that doesn't have the official blessings of Google, and for that matter, of Apple.

The report, however, highlights one issue that Android Wear may encounter for an iOS rollout. Apple has a guideline, under which it can reject apps that mention competing platforms. And with Android Wear being called what it is, there could be a problem.
