Google has announced that its popular web recommendation feature +1 will now be available for mobile devices powered by Android and iOS mobile operating systems. Punit Soni, Lead Product Manager for Google+ Games and Mobile, says on his Google+ page that the button will now be automatically visible on Android 2.1+ and iOS 4.0+ browsers. “When you +1 something, it will be displayed publicly across the Web as an annotation on the content you +1’d,” he adds.
Google of late has been trying to revamp its services and features to compete with rivals like Facebok and Twitter. The search engine giant's latest social networking experiment Google+ has garnered massive buzz. Google+ became one of the fastest growing websites and even surpassed the popularity of Twitter and Facebook in their early days.
If reports are to be believed, Google is aiming to push +1 button as Facebook's Like and Twitter's tweet buttons. Google has also rolled out +1 feature to Google+. The +1 button allows users to share content, comment and even choose a circle on Google+.
"Clicking the +1 button is a great way to highlight content for others when they search on Google," says Google's engineering chief, Vic Gundotra in a blog post. "But sometimes you want to start a conversation right away—at least with certain groups of friends."
Meanwhile, Google+ is set to receive a Twitter-like suggested user list. Google’s Bradley Horowitz tweeted out a note indicating about the new feature - “We’re about to pilot a ‘suggested user’-like mechanism on Google+. If you’ve got more than 100k followers on Twitter, DM me – lets talk!”
