A new online photo sharing service by Google will let you post images to Facebook and Twitter, and it will no longer be a part of the search giant’s own social network, Google+.

A Bloomberg report notes that greater autonomy will give Google’s photo service more freedom to take on rivals tools like Facebook’s Instagram, which despite being owned by Facebook enjoys independence and has seen its user base grow to more than 300 million users.

Google Vice President Sundar Pichai had hinted to the company’s plan of segregating its photos and social-stream features back in March.

The photo service is expected to be unveiled at Google’s annual software developers conference in San Francisco later this month.
