Google Internet Bus project, started in 2009 with an objective to create awareness about Internet in the country, has now arrived in West Bengal. Google's Internet bus has so far travelled across 11 states, 30 cities and covered an area of 50,000 km. The Internet bus, equipped with computers and mobile terminals connected with Internet, is slated to visit various West Bengal districts including Kolkata, Haldia, Purulia, Asansol, Durgapur, Behrampore and Chandannagar.
"We had begun the Internet bus back in February 2009 and now the bus will tour the state. We hope to create awareness about the internet as we believe that continuous efforts will enable the common man to utilise the knowledge," Google India director Vinay Goel is quoted as saying.

Google's project mainly targets the first-time users and aims to familiarise them with the Internet. The bus is specially designed to familiarise people with various Internet applications and services that they can use in their day to day lives. Moreover, the Google Internet bus will be posted at various public places and also outside the schools in a bid to popularlise Internet among the children. "We also found that some 30 per cent of the internet bus users have begun using internet," Goel adds.
Responding to a question related to the Google's stalled Street View project in India, the official said that the project will resume soon after it is cleared by the government. He also revealed that the India launch of Google's Chrome OS and notebook has not yet been decided.
