MUMBAI: Google has inked a deal to buy The Dealmap as it appears increasingly serious about the deal site market.

The Dealmap, a daily deals site that specialises in maps of deals in local areas, is based out of Menlo Park, California.

It was launched in May of 2010 and has built a huge database of deals over the past year. The company mentioned in a blog post that the site now has over two million unique users.

The search giant, however, is more interested in buying Dealmap's DealExchange API that helps businesses integrate Dealmap's database of location information for deals.

Google had launched its own deal network, Google Offers, earlier this year after a rejected bid to buy Groupon. But now it will face Groupon head-on.

The Dealmap said in a blog that "Google provides the ideal platform to help us accelerate our growth and fulfill our mission" and that"joining Google will help us innovate in new and unexplored areas of commerce".
