Google announced the rebranding for its Google Apps for Work as G Suite . The latest rebranding effort by the company is to streamline its services and inform about the superior cloud services as initially reported by The Information . The rebranding reflects a shift in what the apps are meant to do from “Google Apps for work”. Earlier Google apps were meant to be used on the personal domain for a collaborative effort for businesses to grow. Now, “G Suite” is a set of intelligent apps that bring people together while leveraging the capabilities of machine learning, cloud and natural language processing.

“G Suite” includes Google apps like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Calendar, Hangouts and services like Google Translate, Google Keep, etc. These apps will be bundled with Smarter storage like Quick Access in Google Drive, smart replies, smart scheduling with an option to “find time” in your schedule.

Features like smarter spreadsheets with Explore option to help summarise the data will also be included. Other interesting things include smarter presentations with image detection and dynamically generated layout suggestions that speed up work.

New features include Drive for team and Meetings for team, these team focused features are limited as the company works on polishing the tools for general availability as detailed in the blog post . This rebranding comes along with the bundling of services provided by Google under “ Google Cloud “. The company announced the details of the rebranding effort during “Horizon,” an event in San Francisco.

G Suite Updates Blog: A new look for Google sign-in screens on June 14th

Google’s policy is to store your passwords with cryptographic hashes that mask those passwords to ensure their security. However, we recently notified a subset of our enterprise G Suite customers that some passwords were stored in our encrypted internal systems unhashed.

This is a G Suite issue that affects business users only–no free consumer Google accounts were affected.
We made an error when implementing this functionality back in 2005

By intelligently bringing together core tools like video, chat, email, files and tasks, G Suite helps you reach anyone, stay on top of things, and make the most of your time at work.

If you’d like to try this new integrated workspace out yourself, you can sign up here: g.co/cloud/innovating-gsuite. We’ll be expanding availability to more customers over the following weeks, and you’ll be notified when it’s ready for you to try.

To easily join video meetings straight from your inbox, we brought Meet into Gmail on the web, Android, and iOS—and made it free for everyone. And last month, we brought Google Chat into Gmail on web to help you communicate more seamlessly, without the disruption of switching tabs. Soon, Chat will join Gmail on Android and iOS, making it even easier to do more from one place, wherever you are.

We’re also enhancing the collaboration features in Chat rooms by adding shared files and tasks, making rooms an even better solution for longer-term projects. With quick access to shared chat, important documents, and to-dos in one place, it’s easier for everyone in a group to stay on the same page. Plus, Chat lets you create rooms that include people outside your company, like contractors or consultants, so your group can be not only cross-functional but also cross-organizational.

Updates in G Suite unify contacts, content, and tasks in Gmail so you can make the most of your time. | Google Cloud Blog
