Right before launching Android Nougat, Google released its new chat application called Allo. It is an interesting IM with Google’s new Assistant embedded inside. While it did shoot up as the number one app on the Play Store, it is still not easy to completely shift to the new app considering existing apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger.
A major update for the app has started rolling out which is said to bring in some new much needed features.
GIF Keyboard support
The new Android 7.1 update, which comes with the new Pixel smartphones, comes with this feature. With the new Allo 2.0 update, the same feature is implemented in the app. So now sending GIFs with using the Google Keyboard is quite simple.
Android Wear support
If you have an Android Wear device, then the new update will let you quickly reply with your voice or emojis. You can also reply with the automated responses.
Better notifications
Android 7.0 Nougat brought in the quick reply option right into your notification bar. However, Allo never offered this option. The new update fixes that. Now a Reply button for replying directly in the notification has been added along with the sender’s name and image.
Direct share
This feature lets you share text and images directly to a specific person or a group instead of opening the specific app and the recipient. This was introduced in Android 6.0 and now finally reaches the Allo app.
The new update is rolling out slowly and should hit all the countries, including India, very soon.
