NAGPUR: The young and talented bunch of Indian shuttlers started their campaign in the Junior Asian Badminton Championship in style at the CPB Badminton Training Center in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday. The national U-19 squad won both
their Group D matches to virtually
book their spot in the quarterfinals
of this mixed team event format.
Indians had to stretch themselves
fully to get the better of strong
Phillipines 3-2 in their opening
league encounter in the morning
session. Few hours later, relaxed
Indian colts mauled Turkmenistan
5-0 to make it a perfect day.

HYDERABAD: When Pullela Gopichand decided to help some young shuttlers in 2004, he only had a group of about 20. He started training them at makeshift venues at a club in Jubilee Hills and later at the Gachibowli indoor stadium. When he shifted to his own academy in 2008, there were about 50 odd. Until 2010, whoever approached him got admission without much difficulty. But everything has changed now and it's more or less impossible to get into the academy.
