R Ashwin just two wickets away from becoming fastest bowler to claim 250 scalps

India's ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is just two wickets away from taking 250 Test Wickets.

The Chennai tweaker will be hoping to break this record in the upcoming one-off test match against Bangladesh, which will be his 45th match for India.

Ashwin, who was rested for the recently concluded T20 series against England, will become the fastest bowler ever to take 250 Test wickets and would succeed legends like Dennis Lillie and Dale Steyn, who played 48 and 49 matches respectively to claim the feat.

In the global list of leading wicket-takers, the off spinner will go past West Indies legend Michael Holding, who took 249 test wickets in his career.

The one-off match between India and Bangladesh will be played from 9th February to 13th February at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

Ashwin made his Test debut for India against West Indies at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in 2011, where he was adjudged the Man of the Match for his performance of 3/27 in the 1st innings and 6/47 in the 2nd innings.

Ashwin has played just one Test match against Bangladesh where he claimed a 5-wicket haul with a figure of 5/87. His last Test match was against England in Chennai in which he took just one wicket.

The Chennai offie had a glorious 2016, where he claimed three feats for his terrific performance on the field with both the bat and ball.

In the year 2016, he was awarded ICC Cricketer and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year. He is the current number one bowler in the ICC Test rankings, and would be hoping to claim many milestones for the country.

Nic Maddinson takes indefinite break from cricket

Nic Maddinson, the 25-year-old Australian left-hand batsman, will miss his second successive Sheffield Shield game owing to personal reasons, Cricket Australia announced on Wednesday(February 8). It is understood that that Maddinson has decided to take an indefinite break from cricket, and is yet to reveal any plans on when he would return.

In a joint statement, Cricket Australia and Cricket New South Wales, said: "Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW advises that Australian and NSW batsman Nic Maddinson will not be available for selection due to personal reasons, until further notice."

Despite a terrific Shield season, Maddinson had a tough summer. In six Shield innings prior to his Test selection, he had 235 runs at an average of 39.16, including a brilliant 116 against Western Australia. However, what followed was hardly imaginable, both in the international arena and in the Big Bash League, with averages of 6.75 and 10.71 respectively.

On debut, he was up against the swinging pink ball under lights facing a menacing Kagiso Rabada, where he was bowled for a second-ball duck. In Brisbane, he scored 1 and 4 against Pakistan, which was also under lights, and followed by his highest score of 22 in the Boxing Day Test. He was, however, dropped from the third Test against Pakistan in Sydney. In the BBL, he scored 75 runs for the Sydney Sixers in seven games. Subsequently, he pulled out of last week's Shield game against Victoria.

PCB leaving no stone unturned to stage PSL final in Lahore

Najam Sethi, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman, met all the overseas players who are participating in the second edition of the country's Twenty20 extravaganza, assuring them about the security arrangements in Lahore - the venue for the final to be held on March 5.

Speaking during the launch event of the tournament on Monday (February 6), Sethi reiterated their plan of staging the final at the Gaddafi Stadium, and exuded confidence post the assurance from the Punjab government and other security agencies who would look after the smooth running of the big ticket match.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been in a long drawn process of coaxing the foreign players to come to Pakistan, having left no stone unturned in putting every possibly safety measure. Right from buying four bulletproof buses to going to the extent of flying the players in and out of the city on the match day, the PCB is going out of its way to bring cricket back to the country.

The PSL chief is hopeful that the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA) would back PCB's arrangements for the final.

Giles Clarke headed the Task Force during his visit to Pakistan late last month and seemed impressed by the unadulterated passion of the administrators and the people of the country, although he remained cautious about bringing international cricket back, stating that it would be a long process.

PSL is scheduled to begin on Thursday (February 9) and 23 matches will be played across Dubai and Sharjah, before the tournament returns to its parent country for the final on March 5.
