Gautam Gambhir broke Suresh Raina's record for most fifties in the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens tonight.

KKR skipper Gambhir smashed a stylish 64 off 52 balls against defending champions Mumbai Indians and added 100 runs with Manish Pandey (52) for the second wicket. This was his 27th fifty which is now a new record in the cash-rich league.

Raina, formerly of the Chennai Super Kings, now captain of the Gujarat Lions, held the record previously with 26 fifties.

Gambhir started off his Indian Premier League journey with the Delhi Daredevils but moved to KKR after 3 seasons in 2011 and found instant success, leading the -co-owned franchise to two IPL titles in the last five years.

Besides, the southpaw has been in top form, leading from the front.

Gambhir has scored consistently in the IPL since the inception of the league - 534 runs (2008), 286 runs (2009), 277 runs (2010), 378 runs (2011), 590 runs (2012), 406 runs (2013), 335 runs (2014) and 327 runs (2015).

Dropped from the Indian team after a string of poor performances in 2013, Gambhir staged an unsuccessful comeback in England in 2014.

However, his IPL form has been rich - he has so far scored 3235 runs from 119 matches and is the third-highest run-scorer in the league behind Raina (3719) and Rohit Sharma (3417).

Here's a list of the top five players with most fifties:

Gautam Gambhir (Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders): 27

Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions): 26

David Warner (Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad): 26

Rohit Sharma (Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians): 25

Shikhar Dhawan (Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad): 21

What a Great Player he is.
Still Remember When India had gone to Australia for the Tri-Series, while every batsman was failing, he was scoring Century after Century.

HE along with Viru were definitely india's one of the best Opening Pair.
Unfortunately was dropped from the team partly because of lack of runs and partly Because of Politics.

Will be very Happy if he makes a Comeback to the Indian Team.
