After star shuttler Sania Nehwal, it was India's prolific opener Gautam Gambhir's turn to express his concern about the doping menace that has affected the sporting fraternity in the past few days.

"Doping in any sport is a concern. What is illegal is illegal. Action should be taken against any sportsperson who is found guilty of doping. Even if a cricketer is also found guilty of taking banned substances, action must be taken against him as well," said Gambhir.

Gambhir comments came in wake of eight athletes testing positive for anabolic steroids in the last few days in the worst ever doping scandal in Indian athletics.

Asian Games double gold medallist Ashwini Akkunji, her 4x400 relay gold-winning teammates Mandeep Kaur and Sini Jose, Jauna Murmu, Tiana Mary Thomas and Priyanka Panwar were the quarter-milers who have flunked dope tests.

Besides, long jumper Hari Krishnan Muralidharan and shot putter Sonia were also found to have tested positive. Some of the famous cricketing personalities who were caught for doping include Sri Lanka's Upul Tharanga, Shane Warne of Australia and Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif to name a few.
