Gurgaon: Last Sunday, two Gurgaon teenagers achieved a milestone by cycling from home to Jaipur in flat 18 hours, covering over 200km. Euphoric over their feat, the teenagers, Siddharth Iyer Varma and Ishrat Arora are now planning another cycle ride and this time 300 km long journey."Cycling has been a passion for both of us and we always wanted to cover long distance journey. Last week we planned out everything and started out from home," said Siddharth, a class nine student.
"Cycling has been a passion for both of us and we always wanted to cover long distance journey. Last week we planned out everything and started out from home," said Siddharth, a class nine student.
On the cool early Sunday morning the duo started from their home and reached the pink city in evening. Though it was their maiden cycle journey but they cyclists had their checklist ready like a pro. "We had kept everything in mind, like spare tyre, tubes and other headgear," said Siddhartha.
During this adventurous ride the kids faced technical quirks with their bikes. At the very start of the ride, Siddharth's cycle chain conked out and needed repair work. Luckily they weren't very far from the city and got it repaired. The scorching sun drained out the cyclists but they kept peddling their way to Jaipur on the highway. "To deal with exhaustion and heat, we were carrying water, energy drinks and even ORS salt packets, that helped us keep up the momentum and cover the distance," said Ishrat.
The road was crowded with the usual Sunday traffic rush but the duo was mentally prepared to handle all kinds of situations. "Before planning this trip we had done numerous cycling trips from Gurgaon to Connaught Place. This really helped in handling the traffic situation on busy roads during rush hours," said Siddhartha.
The bikers took their first break after pedalling for four and half hours. "After noon the sun was shining bright and that was the most challenging phase of the journey. But both of us went on till we were close to the mountainous terrain near our destination," said Siddharth.
At around quarter past midnight, the pair successfully arrived at their target 200-km mark. "We were really tired and fatigued but overwhelmed with joy on achieving our 200km mark," said Ishrat. On their return journey, the duo drove in the car to reach the main city and then came back to Gurgaon after a night halt on Monday.
