MYSORE: Four persons were killed when a part of the roof of a 120-year-old building housing shops collapsed here today following heavy rains lashing the city, police said.
Fire force officials extricated four bodies from the debris, they said. The deceased included the owner of a book shop and a woman employee.
Heavy rains lashing the city for the past two to three days probably weakened the roof of the Landsdowne Building, a landmark structure in the heart of the City of Palaces, police said.
Lansdowne Building was constructed in 1892 in honour of Lord Lansdowne, 5th Marquis (nobleman ranking above a count) of Great Britain, when he visited Mysore as the Governor-General of India that year.
