Firefox ready to be launched on the iOS platform, says Mozilla
We have seen how Mozilla has categorically statedin the past that it would never come onboard iOS, well looks like that is about to change.
A recent blog postfrom the company states that it is designing a Firefox experience for iOS.
“We need to be where our users are. So we’re going to get Firefox on iOS,” tweeted Mozilla’s release manager Lukas Blakk at an internal conference on Portland.
Mozilla has stated on its blog that it puts users first and wants to provide them an independent choice.
“We are in the early stages of experimenting with something that allows iOS users to be able to choose a Firefox experience.
We work in the open at Mozilla and are just starting to experiment with a couple of different concepts, so we’ll update you when we have more to share,” said the post.
Apple has been quite restrictive when it comes to third party browser apps. Other browser apps such as Chrome and Opera use Apple’s Javascript and rendering engines. One of the major points of contention with Firefox was the fact that Apple’s policies did not allow the ability to carry over Firefox’s sophisticated rendering and javascript engines to iOS.
With the iOS 8 release, Apple has given app developers complete access to its JavaScript engine. While earlier only Safari could access it, it is now open to other browsers such as Opera and Chrome as well.
Mozilla said that users will also be able to sync bookmarks between Apple devices.
