Slingshot_APP-624x351.jpg

Facebook’s answer to Snapchat: Slingshot is now available for users across the world. When the app was launched last week, it was a US-only app, but Facebook has moved quickly to make the app available to international users.

This is in stark contrast to the Paper app (which was Facebook’s answer to reading apps like Flipboard) is still a US-only app and hasn’t yet made it to other countries.

Slingshot team wrote on their blog, “Since we launched last week, we’ve heard from lots of people around the world who are excited to give Slingshot a try. Starting today, we’re expanding our initial launch and making Slingshot available internationally! You can find Slingshot in app stores around the world for iPhone (iOS7) and Android (Jelly Bean and KitKat).”

The app allows users to take photos, videos and then add drawings or funny comments to them. The idea that you then have to ‘sling’ it to a contact and they can’t see a ‘sling’ until they sling something back at you as well.

The slings don’t last on the app, and once you’ve seen it, the message or picture will disappear. Users will need to put in their mobile number to start using the app and they can invite other friends via SMS or Facebook. The app was created out a Facebook Creative Labs hackathon last December.

Given that Facebook Messenger wasn’t the greatest success story, we’ll have to wait and see how the world responds to Slingshot. More on this as we play around with the app.
