After Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently demoed a bunch of upcoming features on Facebook, some new ones have now surfaced to be under testing. Reportedly, Facebook is working on two new features, one which is highly-inspired by Snapchat’s photo frames, and the other that apparently changes long comment threads into Messenger-like group chats.

First talking about the picture frames, Facebook is seemingly borrowing another chapter from Snapchat ’s book. This new feature, which is still under testing, would let users make photo frames for their profile pictures. Right now the test is currently limited to a few countries.

Called the Camera Effects Platform, just like Snapchat, it will allow your to create your own frames and submit to the platform. If your artwork follows all the design guidelines laid down by the company, it will be put up as a filter on Facebook. These filters can be added to both images and videos. Also, the frames are divided in two categories, location and general. Location frames visually represent places like cities, neighborhoods and landmarks, and general frames can be for causes, events, teams or just for fun.

To send your design, make a frame in your favorite design tool, create a PNG with a transparent background for each element, upload your art to Facebook, and arrange each element on the canvas to compose your frame. Fill out details about your frame, like the places or events it is associated with, and then submit your frame for review, which typically takes up to a week. Once your frame has been approved and activated, people can add it to photos and videos they share on Facebook. Additionally, people will also be able to see how their frame is doing with stats like the number of times people used their frame.

The feature will initially be accessible only in Colombia, Mexico, Taiwan, the UK and Ireland, which Facebook says are some of the regions that most commonly use profile frames, however it promises to soon rollout the feature only to more areas. Also, while Facebook is starting out mainly with profile photos, similar frames are also being tested in Facebook’s in-app camera, in Ireland.

The other feature is Facebook turning long comments threads into group chats. According to a recently spotted change by TechCrunch , Facebook had begun to notify some users of their comments on posts in a chat-like window dubbed ‘Your post’ instead of the usual comments page.

A Facebook spokesperson also confirmed to the publication, “We’ve heard from people that they would like an easier way to participate in conversations on a post while they are still in News Feed so we are testing a new option that opens up a window when someone comments on your post, replies to your comment or tags you in a comment. You can always hide the conversation or turn off notifications from within the dropdown menu of the post.”

From what can be understood, the agenda of the feature seems to allow a user to respond to an ongoing conversation on a post without needing to flip back and forth between their News Feed and the posts, or switch between tabs. That surely will add to convenience, especially for users who are active commenters. However, if each comment thread of each post you comment turns into a pop up window, this could soon turn into an annoying feature.

Also, we are still not sure if this chat pop up works for only your own posts, or for all post comments you participate in. But then again, the feature is still under testing and we will have more clarity on the feature once it is official.
