Facebook has been testing a hyperlocal website that helps people discover local services ranging from spas and wellness to event planning and pet services.
The website works on the hyperlocal model, where services are catered to a local geographical area, and lets vendors upload details of their business through their Facebook page.
"We're in the early stages of testing a way for people to easily find more Pages for the services they're interested in," a Facebook spokesperson said.
The site has been in the testing stage since November last year, and lets users rate and review a given service. It currently has services listed under ten subheads, including arts & marketing, automotive, business services, financial services, event planning, home improvement, lifestyle, medical and health, pet services, and spa, beauty and personal care.
Facebook has over two million small and medium businesses using its platform, and the hyperlocal services market is a segment that is seeing increasing competition.
While Facebook has not said how it plans to monetise the site yet, given its reach among businesses and users, the new services site is likely to put tremendous pressure on the already competitive hyperlocal services market.
Among the popular platforms that offer hyperlocal services across different segments are Quikr, UrbanClap, Roadrunnr, Opinio, Zopper and so on.
