Hackers say they will kill Facebook on Nov 5

NEW DELHI: A group of hackers, claiming to be part of Anonymous, has said it will "kill" Facebook on November 5. The group has posted a video on Facebook saying the social networking websites has poor privacy policies and it is not acceptable.

"Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed," a speaker said in the video. The group claimed Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world

However, Anonymous, the hacker collective, which in recent months has gained attention its due to its politically-motivated virtual attacks, has clarified on its Twitter account that it is not related to the group threatening attack on Facebook.

After the news on "attack on Facebook" spread, @anonops, a Twitter account associated with Anonymous, claimed: "OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of Anonymous agrees with it."

Incidentally, November 5 is the Guy Fawkes Day in Britain. The event was used symbolically in the anti-establishment Hollywood film V For Vendetta. The mask - called Guy Fawkes mask - used by the hero of that film has seen its popularity rise in recent years after Anonymous adopted it as the group's symbol.

Facebook posting your phone numbers online

Bangalore, Aug 11: Though Facebook enjoys the status of 'world's largest social networking site' and probably has more than 750 million users around the globe, it always faces criticism over security concerns. According to reports, users are raising eyebrows over a new privacy breach on Facebook platform.

Adding one more to its long list of security flaws, users reported that Facebook has been posting their phone numbers online, making it easy for unknown persons to contact them directly. If you have updated your number on Facebook profile or synced the site with your phone contacts, your number will appear on Facebook.

The recent flaw was buzzing on Facebook and many users posted messages on their walls saying, "All the phone numbers in your phone are now on Facebook" asking others to delete it for security reasons.

Meanwhile, Facebook rejected the claims saying that the feature has existed for over a year and the phone numbers were added by users or their friends. It also said that the mobile numbers will be visible only to the user.

"Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers," Facebook said.

If you want to check the phonebook, Login to your Facebook account > Click on 'Account' > Click on 'Edit Friends' > Click 'Contacts'. You can see your friends with their phone numbers! (shocked?)

If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone or Click here.

Anyhow, Facebook says, "Imported contacts are displayed on your Invites and Imported Contacts page and synced mobile contacts are displayed in your Facebook Phonebook. Contacts may be used to improve the quality of friend suggestions for you and your friends."

Facebook Answers Google+ Games with New Gaming Features

Google fired the first salvo, adding a dozen games to Google+ on Friday, but Facebook seems to have fired right back with new features that expand its own existing brand of social gameplay.

Facebook's user base of some 750 million dwarfs Google's nascent Google+ social platform, which has about 25 million in the early going of this battle between tech giants. But Facebook has given signals that it takes its new challenger seriously, and while Friday's roll-out of new Facebook gaming features may have been in the works for some time, it was certainly timed in such a way as to take some of the wind out Google's social gaming sails.

The new Facebook gaming features include a larger gaming screen and a ticker that appears to the right of the screen which shows friends' gaming activity, scores, and achievements, according to Facebook's Jared Morgenstern, who announced the additions on the company's official blog late Friday.

Facebook is calling the individual updates on the new ticker stream "stories," which users can click on to start playing games like Sims, PacMan, and Words With Friends themselves.

"You can now control who can see these stories for each individual app in your Settings," Mergenstern wrote on The Facebook Blog post. "If you want friends to see you're playing one game but not another, you can change that. You're also able to limit visibility directly from the ticker by clicking 'X' on a story to remove it."

Games that will soon feature a full screen option include CityVille, Zoo World, Monster World, and Mystery Manor, according to Facebook.

Facebook games are also now able to add apps and games to the top of their bookmarks on their homepages.

"To add a new favorite, click the menu next to the bookmark. You can also rearrange, remove, and edit settings from the same menu," the blog post said.

While Google is just entering the social gaming fray with its new Google+ Games service, which kicks off with such popular titles as Angry Birds and Zynga Poker, Facebook is of course the platform that launched the social gaming explosion in the first place.

But if Facebook still has to squint to make out Google+ in its rearview mirror, it's clear from news like Friday's that the social networking leader feels it needs to keep moving forward with key features like gaming to stay in first place.
