MTS, India’s leading CDMA Mobile service operator with over 14 million wireless customers all set to launch Pan-India Basic Phone Services (Fixed Wireless/Landline Phone with 8 Digit number). across 21 circles.

India’s Department of Telecommunication (DoT) allocated the new numbering series with level code ’793′ to Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) that nationally operates its telecom services under the MTS brand to offer basic phone service/fixed phone in 21 telecom circles across India. Presently MTS offering basic phone services only in Rajasthan telecom circle.

MTS strategy to enter into basic phone service backed by market research, which indicates that FWP has easily substituted the land line as the `shared’ family phone, creating more dependence, through personalization tools, which will help spur more use of the product within homes and enterprises segments.

This way the spectrum on 800 MHz band which SSTL has can be better utilized. With more addition of subscribers from this new service SSTL can also apply for more spectrum from DoT.

Currently Reliance Communications(Rcom) and TTSL (Tata Docomo CDMA) are the leading private operators offering CDMA Fixed Wireless/Basic phone service in India under the brand name of Reliance Hello and Tata Walky respectively. Apart from TATA and Reliance, state operator BSNL and MTNL also offering the CDMA FW services. But with the massive growth of mobile market people lost the attraction for Fixed Wireless Telephony.
