Eros International Media, a part of Eros International Plc, is reportedly in talks to acquire Times Internet-owned over the top (OTT) subscription service BoxTV.
BoxTV has multi-lingual content and a user base of five million. “The deal may be done through a share swap where Times Internet may be allotted shares of Eros International.
The talks are at preliminary stages,” Mint quoted a source as saying. BoxTV, which is owned and operated by Times BoxTV Media, offers content in Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Odia, besides Hindi and English. It provides a mix of local as well as international content.
Besides India, BoxTV is available in Singapore, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States aimed at the Indian diaspora in those countries.
The OTT service has a mix of ad supported free content besides a monthly subscription service priced at Rs 199 in India, £4.99 in the United Kingdom and $4.99 in the United States.
Incidentally, Eros International Plc is in talks with Fullerton Fund Management, a unit of Temasek Holdings Pte, to offload 10 per cent stake in its streaming service Eros Now.
