Eranga suspended due to illegal bowling action
Shaminda Eranga, Sri Lankan right-arm seamer, has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect, the International Cricket Council announced on Sunday (June 19).
Eranga was reported after the second Test against England in Chester-le-Street last month. "The assessment revealed that all deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations," the governing body said in a release.
"In accordance with Article 6.1 of the regulations, Erangas international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations for domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction, save that, with the consent of Sri Lanka Cricket, Eranga may be able to play in domestic cricket events played in Sri Lanka under the auspices of Sri Lanka Cricket."
Eranga underwent the test at the Loughborough facility on June 6. He can now request a re-assessment after working on his action. Earlier today, he was hospitalised in Dublin due to a heart ailment.
The 29-year-old made his Test debut in 2011 and has played 19 Tests, 19 One-Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals and has picked up 81 wickets across all formats.
