England women continued their winning form as they beat New Zealand women in their second match of the Women's Quadrangular Series at The County Ground in Derby on Sunday.

After losing the toss Charlotte Edwards was happy to bat first on the same track as two days previous, but when England lost both openers by the second over it looked like the White Ferns had the upper hand.

Danielle Wyatt was pushed up the order to get runs on the board for England and alongside Claire Taylor pushed into double figures before she was caught by debutant Janet Brehaut for 30.

Taylor then went on to build a fine innings for England with Lydia Greenway sharing an 89 run partnership until Greenway was caught behind in the 32nd over, leaving England on 145 for four.

After scoring her 23rd international half century and finding the boundary on seven occasions Taylor (67) was frustrated to be trapped leg before wicket by Nicola Browne.

Sarah Taylor and Arran Brindle (20) then looked to increase the run rate in the later stages knowing they had wickets in hand. Brindle was later trapped leg before wicket leaving Sarah Taylor who hit 41 not out to partner the lower order as England finished on 237 for nine off their 50 overs.

England looked for an early finish as they ripped through the top of the New Zealand order sharing wickets around the bowlers to put the White Ferns on 11 for four after eight overs.

After the early loss of wickets Susie Bates and Aimee Watkins attempted to put on a chase although Watkins needed a runner after rolling an ankle in the field in the first innings. The pair shared a partnership of 57 before Bates was bowled out by Danielle Wyatt in the 34th over.

Watkins continued the fight as the run rate slid up despite her efforts of hitting the ropes on seven occasions on her way to 59. Her contribution was put to an end as she was caught in the deep by Katherine Brunt off a ball from Laura Marsh.

Marsh then went onto pick up two further wickets and Danielle Hazell finished the job as England bowled New Zealand out for 179 in the 46th over to win by 58 runs.

Player of the Match Claire Taylor said: "It was a good victory for the team today.

"I knew wickets in hand were key on that wicket and that batting would be difficult. I enjoyed batting with Lydia Greenway and putting on a partnership. We looked to take any runs that were on offer out there and build a sizeable total to make us as competitive as possible going out to bowl.

"The team is playing some good cricket at the moment and there is more in us yet, we'll take confidence into the next game which is bound to be exciting as we play Australia at Lord's on Tuesday."
