Mosaddek Hossain, Subashis Roy called up for second Test against England

Mosaddek Hossain and Subashis Roy have received maiden call-ups to the Bangladesh squad for the second Test against England, which begins on October 28. Shafiul Islam is the only player from the XI that played the first Test in Chittagong to be "rested" for the Dhaka Test.

Chief selector Minhazul Abedin said that Shafiul had been given time off while Mosaddek had been added as cover for an unwell Sabbir Rahman.

"We have rested Shafiul because he got really tired playing his first Test in a long time," Minhazul said. "We have called up [Mosaddek Hossain] Saikat as cover for Sabbir, who got sick in Chittagong."

Mosaddek is highly rated as a middle-order batsman in the domestic scene, having scored three double-hundreds last year. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan , impressing with his ability to rotate the strike, bowl accurately and field well. Subashis has been called up at this level for the first time, having taken 136 wickets in 51 first-class matches.

Bangladesh squad for the second Test: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan, Shuvagata Hom, Sabbir Rahman, Mehedi Hasan, Taijul Islam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Subashis Roy

Unwell Sabbir Rahman declared fit for second England Test

Sabbir Rahman will be fit for the second Test against England, which begins on October 28, according to Bangladesh physio Bayjidul Islam. Sabbir will join training at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday to prepare for the game.

Sabbir, who debuted in the first Test
in Chittagong and made a half-century during the chase, had a fever throughout the match. He also went off the field during England's second innings, having been hit in the head while batting. Then, upon arrival in Dhaka, Sabbir was taken to the Apollo Hospital where he underwent an endoscopy on Wednesday because of a stomach pain that was not subsiding. Bayjid said that it was an ulcer, but it was nothing serious.

"Sabbir had been suffering from gastric-related problems for quite some time," Bayjidul said. "He had stomach pain, so we kept him under observation in Chittagong where he visited a doctor. There had been some findings but when he underwent the endoscopy at the Apollo Hospital, there wasn't anything serious in it.
"It is a normal gastric problem - peptic ulcer. The doctor has advised him for some dietary changes. Since he did the endoscopy today, he has been told to take the day off. He can start training from tomorrow. The good news is that the pain has also reduced. He will get better."

The Bangladesh selectors had called up Mosaddek Hossain as cover for the ill Sabbir.

Zafar Ansari likely to debut in second Test against Bangladesh

Zafar Ansari, the 24-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner, is set to make his debut when England take on Bangladesh in the second Test that starts on Friday (October 28). Steven Finn is also likely to be included in the eleven while Stuart Broad and Gareth Batty might be the ones to make way, according to reports.
Ansari, who played 10 matches for Surrey in the Division One County Championship, picked up 22 wickets at an average of 31.40 and scored 439 runs which included two half-centuries. The left-arm spinner might have made his Test debut a year back had it not been for a thumb injury he sustained on the day of his England call-up for the Pakistan series.

England's spin attack against Bangladesh includes offspinner Moeen Ali and legspinner Adil Rashid. While Ansari's presence would lend variety to the attack, the 39-year-old Batty would feel hard done, having picked up four wickets in the opening Test, including a three-wicket haul in the second innings.

Meanwhile, Broad, who has played 99 Tests till date, will have to wait a while to play in his landmark Test because of England's rotation policy. While Broad is a crucial cog in England's bowling attack, Finn's presence will give England an opportunity to test the lanky pacer ahead of bigger assignments.

Coach Trevor Bayliss had hinted that a few players might be rested to keep them fresh for the India tour. "We don't want to get halfway through the India series and have one or two guys injured and definitely out. And we also want to give those guys who will probably play at some stage some game time," Bayliss had said.
