Earthquake in North India: Tremors felt in Delhi, Chandigarh; epicentre in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand

An earthquake of significant intensity was reported in Delhi on Monday night. The tremors were felt in other parts of North India as well. The magnitude of earthquake was measured as 5.8 on richter scale. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) claims that the magnitude of earthquake is 5.6 on richter scale. The epicentre of earthquake is reported to be Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, ABP News reported. However, some reports claim that the epicentre of the earthquake is 5.8 magnitude.

The earthquake was first reported at 10:35 PM (IST). However, the exact timing is yet to be confirmed by USGC. No casualties were reported by the time this report was first published.

Apart from Delhi and Uttarakhand, tremors were also felt in parts of Punjab and Haryana as well. The tremors were also reported in regions of Uttar Pradesh, ABP News reported. Experts opine that minimum damage would be caused since the magnitude of earthquake is of relatively smaller magnitude.
