First you need to understand that true IPTV is unaffordable even in developed countries like USA and UK. True IPTV does not even exist in these countries.

What is currently being provided is virtual IPTV (vIPTV). Virtual IPTV can be a boon for several channels in India because of the a-la-carte policy of MIB. Once again all unnecessary channels can be provided to the user with no option for the user not to take these channels.

Also, separate STBs for live TV and OTT is desired by many who have only internet connection on TV.

The live TV STB can have a remote designed to smoothly operate live TV whereas the OTT STB can have a remote designed for operation of OTT apps.

Nope, otts are enough. For older generation there is cable and dth. We have already skip IPTVs just like we did with 3G to steaming platforms and 4G.

IPTV is still theoretical in india. Our infrastructure for IPTV still not sufficient I feel. However I welcome for new technology implementation.

We already have likes of Hotstar, Sony Liv etc. for same. Even Netflix is entering into sports.

Sports lovers are interested to watch sports on tv over ott due to some delay (10-20 sec) in streaming.

What advantage will IPTV be serving compared to DTH & Cable? It's not like we'll be getting channels for cheaper. It will follow the same NTO. On top of that it will share speeds with the other devices connected to the Wi-Fi. It will stop working if internet speeds are slow or there is a fiber cut. No real advantage other than the convenience of paying the same bill for both internet and TV, that too just once a month, saving like 2 minutes in total.

I feel the real reason why people are hell-bent on wanting IPTV is just because everyone is bored of using regular DTH & cable for so many years, and want to try out something new.
