DND (Do Not Disturb) Services App enables smart phone users to register their mobile number under DND to avoid Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC)/ Telemarketing Calls / SMS. This is based on TRAI, “Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations, 2010”.


The new release has the following additional features:

· An intelligent spam detection engine (for SMS only) to assist the subscriber in reporting

· Crowdsourcing of data about offending messages and calls to speed up detection of unregistered telemarketers

· Updates about action taken on complaints within the App

· Easier interface and set up

Trai overhauls rules on pesky calls, spam messages; spells out obligation of telcos

Telecom subscribers may get respite from unwanted calls and text messages in the next few months with the regulator tightening rules and setting stiff penalties of between Rs 1,000 and Rs 50 lakh per violation in a month on telcos that don’t comply with guidelines to check the menace.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India asked telcos on Thursday to use blockchain technology to reduce pesky and unwanted commercial calls and messages and mandated subscriber consent to receive telemarketing messages.

It said “a complete overhaul of the earlier regulations had become unavoidable” in the light of 2 million complaints till date even after disconnection of 1.4 million numbers and blacklisting of 460,000 numbers so far.

Trai to roll out user-friendly DND app to combat spam menace

"The intention is to make it user-friendly... the experience should be good, and it should become the preferred app for DND registration," Trai chairman AK Lahoti said, adding that additional functionalities that can be built in, such as reporting and blocking spam calls, need to be examined.
