New Delhi, May 12 : The Delhi High Court today reserved its order on the Delhi University's plea seeking to initiate contempt proceedings against Dyal Singh College teachers, for not implementing the semester system in this academic year despite the court directions to do so.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna after hearing lengthy arguments from both sides reserved its order today.

The DU had moved the HC alleging that the teachers were still agitating against implementing the semester system and had not paid heed to the court order directing them to start classes immediately under the semester system, the lawyer appearing for the university said.

The DU lawyer alleged that the teachers have not yet drawn up any curriculum nor were they providing any additional information in this regard as to when it would be done making it sheer wastage of the students' time.

Mr Prashant Bhushan, lawyer, appearing for the teachers, said they were protesting for the welfare of the students as the semester system would not benefit them.

Teachers from other colleges, who are opposing the semester system, were also present in the court and most of them were of the view that the system was not beneficial to students.

The court deferred till July the hearing on the issue of validating the varsity’s move to implement the semester system in all its courses from the current academic year.
