Usually the call and data services will be purposely switched off during such Bharath Bandhs in violence prone areas only. Only those areas which comes under police red alert radar, will have that problem. It is to avoid any unwanted incidents.
TN people can recall that data services was affected around Marina beach areas during the Jallikattu protest in January.
