US manufacturer Corning has launched Masterpix photo frame featuring Gorilla Glass in India.
Launched in US in 2014, the new Masterpix glass is used to print photos on thin and optically clear Corning Gorilla Glass, using ultraviolet-cured (UV-cured) inks. The prints are also scratch resistant, stain resistant and easy to clean, claims the company.
Targeted at consumers, wedding planners, photographers, architects and people with high-end printing needs, the Masterprix prints come in six sizes, ranging from 4x6-inches to 55x48-inches, and two glass finishes — glossy and matte.
Commenting at the launch, Pradeepak Malvai, commercial director, new emerging business, Corning India said, "Gorilla Glass was initially used as a cover glass to help protect electronic devices. Now we use it to preserve you most cherished photographs. Masterpix is another example of Corning pursuing a new market for an existing product."
The company also said that the Gorilla Glass has been used as a cover glass on over 4.5 billion electronic devices.
Recently, the company offered to buy Alliance Fiber in a $305 million deal. The deal would enable Corning to expand its footprints in Asia and also support data center growth.
