Chandimal awarded top contract by SLC
Dinesh Chandimal, Sri Lanka's Twenty20 captain, has been promoted to the top category of Sri Lanka Cricket's central contracts, for 2014-15. SLC announced that it will be centrally contracting 17 players in all for the season.
Lahiru Thirimanne was the other big gainer, moving up from category 3 to category 2. Kusal Perera and Kaushal Silva gained promotions as well.
SLC also announced a new category, the 'special category', which includes three players: Test wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene and Test retirees Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga.
The players were categorised based on their performances in international cricket in 2013. Based on their ICC rankings for 2013, some players will be paid bonuses: Kumar Sangakkara and Rangana Herath, for being in the top 10 in Test cricket; Sangakarra, Herath and Dilshan by the same standards in ODI cricket, and Ajantha Mendis and Nuwan Kulasekara in Twenty20 cricket.
