The land speed record for motorcycles is currently held by Rocky Robinson. The top speed achieved was 605.364 km/h with a Ack Attack streamliner back in 2010. A new streamliner is now getting ready to challenge it by trying to reach a top speed exceeding 400 mph or 643.738 km/h.

The machine that will be used to try and set the new motorcycle land speed record is the Castrol Rocket streamliner and will be driven by Jason DiSalvo. The Rocket measure 35 feet long, 2 feet wide and 3 foot high. By most definitions the Rocket looks like, well a rocket.

It is the two wheels that places it in the two wheeler category. The Rocket was constructed in association with Hot Rod Conspiracy and Carpenter Racing. The main sponsors are Castrol and Triumph. The Rocket will participate in the "Division C (Streamlined), Type V (5) Spark Ignition, Over 2,000cc to 3,000cc class

" The streamliner runs on two modified triumph Rocket III engines. Each 2,295 cc engine has been modified so that they now measure 1,485cc each, bringing the total to 2,970cc. Thus, the engine capacity has been maintained within the 3,000cc class limit.

"Land speed racing is the purest form of motorsport. It's about bringing all of your ingenuity, resources and determination together for a constant battle against the elements," said pilot Jason DiSalvo.

"The salt surface has little traction. The wind pushes against you from every side. But what's really special about Bonneville Land Speed Racing is the people. The conditions are so challenging that for the past 100 years, racers with little else in common, have banded together to support and encourage each other to become the world's fastest.

" "This project is a celebration of Castrol and Triumph's motorsports heritage, innovation, courage and perseverance," said Greg Heichelbech, President and CEO, Triumph Motorcycles North America.

"It's an incredible opportunity to simultaneously chase history and celebrate your heritage. Our hats are off to the Hot Rod Conspiracy/Carpenter Racing team and all of the racers who make land speed racing such a colorful and meaningful sport."
