T20 specialist Tymal Mills featured in CPL draft
One of the hottest purchases of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 auction, Tymal Mills along with Afghanistan stars Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan are few of the notable mentions in this year's Caribbean Premier League player draft.
England's new found Twenty20 sensation, Mills, was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping sum of INR 12 crore in the recently concluded IPL auction. Mills's availability at the CPL is expected to be stunted with much of the West Indian league coinciding with Natwest Blast, England's domestic T20 tournament. Former England left-arm spinner Monty Panesar is also one of the four players from the country to feature in the draft.
Rashid Khan, who made ripples by attracting a hefty bid of INR 4 crore, along with Nabi, who was picked up for INR 30 lakh, are among a few other Afghanistan players - Nawroz Mangal, Asghar Stanikzai and Najibullah Zadran - to find a spot in the list. Among other Associate players in the pool are Ireland's George Dockrell, Kevin O'Brien and Niall O'Brien; Rizwan Cheema and Ruvindu Gunasekera from Canada, Oman's Sufyan Mehmood and Zishawn Qureshi from the USA.
The 258-player pool has names from almost every major cricket playing nation including the local West Indies players, and the draft is scheduled for March 10. Retained players and the marquee players will be announced separately.
Tom Moody, the CPL's director of international cricket, said: "T20 is capturing the world of cricket by storm, and with the huge numbers of talented players from across the cricketing world eager to sign up to the biggest party in sport, I've no doubt that the 2017 season will be our best yet.
"In attracting the cream of international talent from a healthy blend of established and fast-developing nations, it extends the growing international appeal of the sport and of the Hero CPL itself, and I have no doubt that we are going to see a hugely contested player draft in Barbados on March 10th," concluded Moody.
