Breaking News: Nepal to host Asian Premier League T20 featuring International cricket stars!

It has come as a pleasant surprise to cricket lovers in Nepal that an international cricketing event featuring famous world class cricket stars is going to be held very soon in Nepal which has the greatest cricket craze among the affiliate nations. It has been announced in a press conference organized on 11th June 2017, that the much anticipated Asian Premier League (APL) T20 tournament will be organized by Ultimate Sports Management from 19th June to 4th July at TU Cricket Ground in Kathmandu, Nepal. The tournament format will comprise of six franchise teams with star international players from different Asian countries.

The mega sporting event is going to be organized by Ultimate Sports Management in association with the National Sports Council, Nepal. The tournament will be broadcasted live around the world from Sony Six channel.

According to the organizers, a total of 150 players have been shortlisted and a grand players auction will be held at Hotel De’La Annapurna on 12th June in which the team owners will select 108 players. The auction of the tournament will also be broadcasted live on Sony Six channel.

The tournament is the first of its kind to be organized in Nepal with Asian level cricket clubs participating in it. The lucrative cash prize of the league is another attraction of the contest. The winning team will take home a mammoth amount of INR 25 Lakh which comes to be around 40 Lakhs in Nepali currency. Similarly the runner up team and the second runner up team will get richer by INR 10 Lakhs and INR 5 Lakhs respectively. The Man of the Series will go home with a Car as the reward while the crowd will be picking one player everyday who will get awarded as the ‘Entertainer of the Day’.

The first Asian Premier League (APL) T20 tournament is sponsored and supported by various corporate houses. The declaration of the tournament to be held in Nepal has opened up new door of hope in the situation when cricket in Nepal is plagued by mismanagement, political interference and internal disputes. The tournament is expected to create a stir in the semi conscious Nepalese cricket scenario.

According to Wicket Nepal.com, the six teams and their respective captains are as listed below.

1. Afghanistan Bulls : Pakistan pace bowler Rana Naved Ul Hasan will lead the team of Afghanistan Bulls. He is well known for his variety in bowling attack. Pakistan opening batsman Imran Nazir is said to be the mentor of the team.

2. Bangladesh Tigers : Bangladeshi Pacer Al Amin Hossain will be the captain of this team. He was in the Bangladesehi team which played against Nepal during the ICC World T20 2014. Hard hitting batsman, Justin Kemp of South Africa will be the coach of this team.

3. Dubai Warriors: Abdul Shakoor, international cricket player of team UAE will be the captain of this team. Zimbabwean cricketer and occasional wicket keeper Charles Coventry will coach the Dubai warrior team.

4. Indian Stars : The team of Indian Stars will be led by the famous cricket star from Srilanka, Tilakratne Dilshan. He is well known for being an aggressive opening batsman and the innovator of the unorthodox style of batting shot known as the ‘Dil scoop’. Former Indian Test wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra will be the mentor of the team.

5. Nepal Storms: Unfortunately The home team, Nepal storms will not be led by any Nepali player but it will be UAE international Swapnil Patil who will be the captain of the team. English all-rounder Dimtri Mascarenhas will be the mentor of the team.

6. Sri Lankan Lions: Sri lankan bowling all rounder star Farveez Mahroof will be the captain of the team. He has experience in all three formats of the game. South African Pace bowler Rusty Theron will be the mentor of the team.

Nepal to host Asian Premier League 2017 T20

KATHMANDU, June 12: Ultimate Sports Management (USM), a Chandigarh-based sports management company, announced on Sunday that it will bring the first Asian Premier League (APL) Twenty20 cricket tournament featuring current and former international cricketers on the Tribhuvan University ground.

The organisers announced the six-team tournament from June 19 to July 4.

The six franchises include


India Stars

Nepal Storm

Bangladesh Tigers

Afghanistan Bulls

Sri Lankan Lions

Dubai Warriors
