LG unveiled the Optimus Black four months ago at the MWC held in Barcelona. The handset was one of the slimmest handsets at the time, but the Galaxy S 2 stole away the show as the slimmest phone in the world (outside Japan). The company formally announced the arrival of the handset in India along with the Optimus 2x back in April. Back then, LG quoted the price of the Optimus Black as Rs 27,000, but now the handset is priced at Rs 19,990. The price drop is pretty understandable, since the Optimus 2x, which is more powerful than the Black, costs about 26,000 in the market today. It therefore makes sense to price the device appropriately.

The Optimus Black comes with a decent set of hardware for its price. It comes with a 4" IPS LCD display a.k.a the NOVA display with pixel dimensions of 480x800 pixels. There is also a 5 MP camera capable of recording 720p HD video at 30fps, and a 2 MP front facing camera for video calls. Powered by a 1 GHz TI OMAP processor, the handset has 512 MB of RAM, 2 GB of internal storage, and Android 2.2 Froyo with LG Optimus UI 2.0 and Gesture UI 2.0. The handset comes with a G button on the left hand side of the handset just below the volume rocker, which enables some cool gesture controls. Holding the button and shaking the device when locked will take you straight to the camera app, and motion controlled scrolling can be done by holding the G button and moving the device up and down. Though most of the gesture controls merely count as eye candy, it doesn't hurt to have them in a smartphone. Other features include a 3.5 mm audio jack, Wi-Fi (with Wi-Fi Direct), Bluetooth, and GPS along with A-GPS support. The light weight body and the plastic feel might not impress a few, but the features of the phone will certainly compensate for the look and feel.

The Optimus Black is also one of the lightest devices out there, weighing in at a mere 109 grams, beating the 116 grams Galaxy S II. The entire body of the Optimus Black is made up of plastic, thus considerably cutting down on the weight of the device. The device is priced at the same range as the Google Nexus S and the Galaxy SL i9003, which could leave potential buyers confused. Nevertheless, the LG Optimus Black is something that is going to grab some eyeballs for sure, so you might as well invest in this silent killer. You can get the device from the online retailer LetsBuy or from Flipkart.
