KOLKATA: Faced with the "Jio" challenge, the West Bengal Telecom Circle, serving both West Bengal state (excluding CTD served area) and Sikkim, has introduced many new plans in mobile and landline areas, CGM R K Jha said.
Speaking to TOI, he talked about of the following:
Free night calling from 9PM to 7AM and all Sundays.
Experience LL 49: Promotional landline tariff plan for new landline customers for a period of 180 days w.e.f. 15th Aug 2016.
Jha said, "In the mobile sector we have launched many attractive plans like Data STV-1099 in which unlimited data access for one month beside 3 new data STVs. We have also launched very lucrative and convenient tariff plan named Bande Mataram Plan FRC-55, NRI Plan FRC-1000 and Student Special Plan FRC-118."
He added, " Our services are provided through 1362 telephone exchanges, 2749 2G BTSs & 629 3G Node Bs, 223 Wi-Max connected over 16500KM of optical fibre route. The majority of the exchanges (1110) and BTSs (1773) are installed in rural areas."
BSNL has taken up various Government of India projects to provide better connectivity and mobile coverage to Left Wing Extremist (LWE) and border areas of West Bengal and Sikkim state. Under the LWE project of MHA, Government of India, a total of 96 BTSs has been installed under three LWE districts of Bengal namely Bankura, Purulia and West Medinipur. BSNL has taken up another important Government of India project - NOFN. Under Ph-I a total of 7374 KM OFC will be laid covering 2467 out of 3351Gram Panchayats in 253 blocks of West Bengal State(Excluding CTD portion). Total Rs 289 Crs have been planned for investment under NOFN project. Already 2545 Km pipe has been laid till date. Currently, 6 Block HQs and 51 GPs have already been provided with high speed data services and we are planning to complete around 2500 GPs progressively.
"We are going to install 250 state of the art 2G BTSs and 100 3G Node Bs in this fiscal. Besides 4G Services has also been planned at five cities namely, Siliguri, Durgapur, Asansol, Khargarpur and Gangtok. WBTC has also taken up a project for launching Wi-Fi based broadband services at various hotspots across the state, especially the must see places of tourist/business interest," said Jha, adding, "We have further planned to migrate the existing landline exchanges to Next Generation Network (NGN) switches for better quality of services. 5 NT switches have already been commissioned and action is on for migration of another 50 C-DoT MAX switches by March'2017. MPLS CORE node at Siliguri and Durgapur have already been upgraded for better service to North Bengal and South Bengal areas respectively. 11 EDGE routers have been commissioned at various important locations of West Bengal for better broadband services."
