NEW DELHI: State-run telco BSNL has become the fifth largest mobile services company in the country owing to its monthly growth rate of 1.48% in providing new connections during the month of June, the telecom regulator said in a report Friday .
The report said that the growth rate is the highest in the country where the telco added than 13.03 lakh new mobile customers. BSNL increased its market share from 8.54% to 8.65% for which it credited its free all India roaming scheme.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) in its report said that the telco's performance in wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth rate has been increasing continuously from July 2015. Also, BSNL has been getting MNP positive which the company is trying to maintain in this financial year.
The report said that the telco's port-in customer base stands at 0.25 million since April 2016.
Recently, BSNL and Reliance Jio signed intra-circle roaming agreement for 2G and 4G services. Also, immediately after Jio revealed its tariff structure, BSNL unveiled unlimited broadband offer at Rs 249 which indicates that the company is ready to make bold moves in order to survive and grow.
BSNL had introduced data plans where it offered unlimited data at competitive prices such as STV 1099 for unlimited data without speed restriction, STV 549 with 10 GB data, and STV 156 with 2GB data.
