Brian Vitori, the Zimbabwe left-arm pacer, has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect after an independent assessment found his bowling action to be illegal, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday (February 17).

According to the ICC, the assessment revealed that all variations of his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations. Vitori was reported after the third Twenty20 International (T20I) against Bangladesh in Khulna on January 20.

"In accordance with Article 6.1 of the regulations, Vitori's international suspension will also be recognised and enforced by all National Cricket Federations for domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction, save that, with the consent of Zimbabwe Cricket, Vitori may be able to play in domestic cricket events played in Zimbabwe under the auspices of Zimbabwe Cricket," ICC said in a media release.

"The player can apply for a re-assessment after modifying his bowling action in accordance with clause 2.4 of the Regulations for the Review of Bowlers Reported with Suspected Illegal Bowling Actions," the release stated.

Vitori, who has played four Tests, 19 ODIs and 11 T20Is for Zimbabwe so far, underwent the test on February 3 at the Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Sciences Centre, Chennai - one of ICC's accredited testing centres.
