A message asking users to follow a link to avail Airtel’s unlimited 4G data offer, has been doing rounds on popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp , turned out to be a fake and likely aimed to corrupt subscribers’ mobile device, according to the new Indian Express.

The spam message reads: "LOOT OFFER FOR ALL AIRTEL USER:- Due to Jio, Now Airtel market is down so Airtel is activating Unlimited 4G, 3G data for 3 months. Visit Following link to Activate for airtel 3 months 4G, 3G Pack and enjoy. Visit Now:- http://offer-for-all.com/. Get Airtel free Internet/ and free 300 minutes local calling every month for next 3 months.”

The alleged message that has gone viral in the last few days, according to the report, has nothing to do with the telco, and if there was any such information, it would have come as a regular SMS to the individual consumers. The link, provided has no connection with Airtel.
If a consumer clicks the link, a new page opens that has the Airtel logo and the 90-day offer, and it requires basic information such as name, phone number and state of residence. The site later asks users to download its sponsor apps which might contain malware that could corrupt users’ phone.

In the wake of Reliance Jio entry on September 5, 2016, the rival telcos such as Airtel, Vodafone , Idea and state-run BSNL have started offering various value-added data packs to retain their subscribers.
