Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016, on Tuesday (November 29), came under scrutiny for match-fixing. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are set to instigate an investigation after there were allegations made from one of the players in the competition.

The tournament has had a history of match-fixing. It was even suspended for a year in 2014 when former Bangladesh captain, Mohammad Ashraful, and four others were found guilty of fixing matches. Ashraful is currently facing a five-year ban from international cricket.

The allegations came to light when Rangpur Riders player, Jupiter Ghosh claimed team manager Sanuar Hossain told him to fix match results just before the start of the tournament earlier this month. He also suggested that he was dropped from the team because he did not comply to the request.

"The BCB is investigating complaints lodged by a cricketer of BPL 2016 franchise Rangpur Riders against an official of the same team," the BCB said. "The BCB recognises that the allegations and counter allegations brought forward by the player and the official concerned, which includes breach of discipline and corrupt practice, are of serious nature."

Meanwhile, Rangpur Riders have ousted Ghosh on disciplinary grounds because he made the allegations public. They have even banned Hossain from the tournament till investigations are completed.
