Former India allrounder Sanjay Bangar was named the assistant coach of the King's XI Punjab team ahead of the 2014 season of the IPL. Bangar retired from first-class cricket in 2013 and has since coached India A. He has previously been part of the Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders set-up as a player and of Kochi Tuskers as batting coach.

"It will be interesting to have a new team this year and a great challenge and opportunity to train some of the young and inspiring cricketers," Bangar said. "I am looking forward to working with the team and am sure they will please the fans in season 7 with their exceptional performance."

Bangar, who played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs between 2001 and 2004, scored 8349 runs in first-class cricket and picked up 300 wickets.
