Axis Communications has launched two thermal network cameras—Q1921 and Q1921-E, for indoor and outdoor surveillance respectively.

The cameras have range of up to 200m with a 55 degree field of view, and up to 1,200m with a 9 degree field of view. In addition, they support key IP-Surveillance features such as H.264 and Motion JPEG, two-way audio, local storage, and Power over Ethernet. Intelligent video is a key component of any thermal camera, and AXIS Q1921/-E provide tampering alarm, motion detection, and support for AXIS Camera Application Platform.

“After the introducing 1910/-E earlier this year, we are now launching the new Q1921/-E models. Their improved detection range, wide area coverage and the flexibility provided by lens alternatives are features that are strongly requested from our customers,” said Johan Paulsson, Chief Technology Officer, Axis Communications.

Thermal cameras create images based on the heat so they can detect suspicious activity even in complete darkness and deliver images that allow operators to react. Thermal cameras are built to handle difficult weather conditions such as haze, dust and smoke. The cameras are for 24/7 area or perimeter surveillance of roads, tunnels and airports.

The Axis Q1921-E is an IP66-rated, outdoor-ready camera with four lens alternatives—10mm, 19mm, 35mm and 60mm. Its 384 x 288 resolution and the advanced image processor improve effective area and perimeter surveillance.

The cameras are supported by Axis’ video management software through the Axis application development partner program as well as Camera Station. They also support the ONVIF specification for interoperability of network video products.

The cameras will be available in September 2010 through Axis’ distribution channels.
